Price Point assemblage (Cretaceous to of Antarctica)

Where: Antarctica (62.2° S, 58.7° W: paleocoordinates 60.0° S, 69.1° W)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Half Three Point Formation, Late/Upper Campanian to Late/Upper Campanian (83.5 - 66.0 Ma)

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: terrestrial; lithified, tuffaceous, sandy sandstone and lithified, tuffaceous, muddy mudstone

• Section of tuffaceous sandstones, siltstones and mudstones that extends up to 10 m laterally and is approximately 6 m thick, of which about 4 m is fossiliferous. The upper conglomerate has an erosive junction with the fossiliferous section. The beds dip 15°S and display contorted lamination in three or probably four upwardcoarsening cycles, each beginning with very thin beds or lenses of bright coal and tuffaceous mudstones (Dutra et al., 1996). At the top there is a conglomerate that consists of chaotically dispersed volcaniclastic and tuffaceous blocks up to 50 cm in diameter, and pieces of wood and coal.

Size class: microfossils

• Other: Palynomorphs

Preservation: adpression, soft parts, original carbon, original sporopollenin, original cellulose

Collection methods: bulk, chemical, mechanical, hydrochloric, hydroflouric,

• Museum of Paleontology, Antarctic Section, Vale do Rio dos Sinos University: Repository
