• Based on palynological studies by Stover (in Yrigoyen, 1975) on samples from the La Cantera Formation, an Early Cretaceous (pre-Aptian) age was established for this formation.
Environment/lithology: lacustrine; lithified, gray, green, silty siltstone and lithified, red sandstone
• The formation is interpreted as having been deposited in a lacustrine environment, according to its limited extent, palynoflora and lithological characteristics.
• The La Cantera Formation is composed principally of green-gray siltstone ad claystone, with red sandstone and claystone interbedded at the top.
