Chuí Creek (Pleistocene of Brazil)

Where: Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil (33.6° S, 53.3° W: paleocoordinates 33.6° S, 53.1° W)

• coordinate stated in text

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Pleistocene (2.6 - 0.0 Ma)

• These fossils are associated with the deposits of Lagoon-Barrier System III, which have an estimated age of about 120,000 years BP (Villwock & Tomazelli, 1995 in Scherer et al., 2009). There is no absolute dating for the fossiliferous level, but the assemblage permits a Lujanian age to be inferred (Oliveira et al., 2005; Lopes et al., 2005. in Scherer et al., 2009)

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lagoonal; medium-grained sandstone and muddy sandstone

• The deposits along this creek show beach facies at the base, characterized by middle- grained sandstone, overlapped by a thick layer of muddy sandstone, probably fluvial or lagoonal in its origin, where there are the mammal fossils.

Size class: macrofossils
