•Regarding the Río Quinto Formation, Prado et al. (1998) describe a Neogene–Quaternary profile downstream of the Paso de las Carretas dam and provide the first systematic work on fossil mammals from the highest stratigraphic levels, considering them of Chapadmalalan age (Pliocene). In addition, Morla et al., 1999, Costa et al., 2002, and Ojeda and Chiesa (2004) offer detailed stratigraphic descriptions of different profiles in the study area.
