Where: Israel (30.0° N, 35.1° E: paleocoordinates 9.4° N, 28.2° E)
• coordinate estimated from map
• outcrop-level geographic resolution
When: Ora Formation, Middle Turonian (93.5 - 89.3 Ma)
• Upper part of formation. The clay-containing horizon forms an overhanging ledge on a vertical wall at a height over 3 m from the bottom. Carbonate intercalations in the Lower Shale Member contain latest Cenomanian to early Middle Turonian ammonites (Freund and Raab, 1969; Bartov et al., 1972; Lewy, 1989). Overlain by the argillaceous limestones of Gerofit Formation (Bartov et al., 1972) with the Middle Turonian ammonite Collignoniceras woollgari (Mantell) (at Kippat Eshet: Sakal, 1967) and other normal marine fossils. Thus, the Middle Turonian age assignment of the Upper Shale Member is based on the ammonite records immediately below the Vroman Bank (Lewy, 1989) and in the overlying Gerofit Formation.
• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: lagoonal; lithified shale
Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils
Preservation: adpression
Collected by V.A. Krassilov in 2009; reposited in the PIN
• The author used stones to knock pieces of rock out of the overhanging ledge and then examined these pieces. Only one insect fossil was obtained in this way, the one described below.
