USGS 7098-CO. Near top of Skene Mountain (Cambrian of the United States)

Also known as Taylor bed E

Where: Washington County, New York (42.6° N, 73.4° W: paleocoordinates 32.9° S, 74.0° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Missisquoia depressa trilobite zone, Skene Member (Whitehall Formation), Furongian (497.0 - 485.4 Ma)

• Missisquoia subzone: 490.0 - 488.3 Ma. Skullrockian. Collected in place from limestone beds forming blocky outcrops on dip slope overlying sandy and cherty dolomite beds.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: shallow subtidal; ooidal, gray grainstone

• "the Whitehall fossils represent a vagile epibenthic fauna that probably lived in a nearshore subtidal habitat characterized by warm and clear marine waters. The habitat probably experienced sustained moderate to high turbulence and may have had a high range of salinity or generally hypersaline conditions. The geographic site of deposition was probably on the landward edge of a carbonate shelf of unknown width. "
• Sample composed of light- to medium-gray (N 6-7) ooid lithoclast grainstone. Collected in place from limestone beds forming blocky outcrops on dip slope overlying sandy and cherty dolomite beds.

Size class: macrofossils

Collected by E.O Ulrich, R. Ruedeman & J. Bridge in 7/8/1931; reposited in the USNM
