MF A8 Stringocephalus floatstone (Devonian to of Morocco)

Where: Morocco (33.7° N, 7.0° W: paleocoordinates 41.9° S, 11.7° E)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Aïn Khira Formation, Early/Lower Givetian to Early/Lower Givetian (388.1 - 383.7 Ma)

• lower to middle Givetian

Environment/lithology: open shallow subtidal; floatstone

• It consists of a higher amount of macrofauna, mainly of thick-shelled brachiopods (Stringocephalus) and secondarily of dendroid and laminar stromatoporoids, as well as small solitary rugose corals. Additional bioclasts are small ostracods, parathuramminids, and small shell fragments. The matrix consists of bioclastic mud-/wackestone. Bioturbation fabrics within the matrix are filled with peloids and pelmicrite. The inner space of shells shows geopetals, the outer shell often beginning micritization by microborings.
• floatstone

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils
