Barrancas Blancas upper (section between Estancia Santa Lucia & Aguada Grande) (Miocene of Argentina)

Where: Santa Cruz, Argentina (50.2° S, 69.7° W: paleocoordinates 50.8° S, 64.0° W)

• coordinate stated in text

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Santa Cruz Formation, Santacrucian (17.5 - 16.3 Ma)

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: terrestrial; lithology not reported

• It is covered transitionally by the upper section which is assigned to the Santa Cruz Formation, composed by nearly 100 m of well stratified, yel- low to greenish siltstone and tabular claystone beds, with evidence of paleosol formation. Sandstone beds are infrequent and abundant pyroclastic material is observed mixed with the epiclastic material, as well as thick tuff beds (Fig. 4).

Size class: mesofossils

Collected by C. Ameghino, Fernicola et al in 2013-2014

• Recent fieldwork carried out between 2013 and 2014 by joint expeditions of the MLP, MACN, and Duke University
