• Basal part of formation; Capay Stage; Foraminifera indicative of P7 to P9 Zones and calcareous nannofossils indicative of CP9 to CP11 Zones also have been found 58 m upsection from CSUN locality 662 (Advocate, 1983).

Environment/lithology: offshore; shale

• These deposits represent a transitional marginal marine to deep-water submarine-fan sequence deposited in subtropical waters (Advocate, 1983).
• consists of siliciclastics that locally contain some macrofossils and microfossils.
