Petruny MS Thesis TDP Site 33 (Cretaceous of Tanzania)

Where: Lindi, Tanzania (10.0° S, 39.6° E: paleocoordinates 31.1° S, 28.4° E)

• coordinate stated in text

When: T. globotruncanoides foram zone, Lindi Formation (Kilwa Group), Early/Lower Cenomanian (99.6 - 93.5 Ma)

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: offshore; lithified, muddy siltstone and lithified sandstone

• The main lithologies from the surface to the bottom of the hole are light olive gray and olive black, massive, clayey siltstones and claystones (Figs. 11 and 12a), with common oxide stains along fractures due to modern weathering. Laminated fabrics are very rare, and no bioclasts are visible. Cores TDP33/4, 12 and 13 present intervals with up to medium-grained, well-lithified sandstones

•(Fig. 12b–d). Some of the sandstones show mm- to cm-sized, greenish siltstone clasts (Fig. 12b). Core TDP33/11 exhibits a 35-cm-thick, light gray, well- ithified carbonate layer with abundant.

•quartz grains (Fig. 11).

Size class: microfossils

Preservation: original calcite

Collected by Tanzania Drilling Project Expedition in 2008; reposited in the UNSM
