1205-C-upper (Pliocene of the United States)
Where: Bonneville, Madison, Teton County, Idaho (43.7° N, 111.3° W: paleocoordinates 43.9° N, 110.5° W)
When: Younger Conglomerate Formation, Pliocene (5.3 - 2.6 Ma)
Environment/lithology: terrestrial; lithified, brown conglomerate and lithified sandstone
• The younger conglomerate is a thick cobble conglomerate which has here and there a few beds and lenses of sandstone. This rock is generally light brown, although in places it may be gray or pale pink. Pebbles and cobbles are subangular to well rounded and range in diameter from 1/8 of an inch to 3.5 feet, although most of them are less than 6 inches in diameter. Many beds are fairly well sorted, the cobbles are being fairly uniform in size, but other beds show little or no sorting.
