El Dinde - NE Villavieja (Miocene of Colombia)

Where: Huila, Colombia (3.2° N, 75.2° W: paleocoordinates 2.7° N, 72.6° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Cerbatana Formation (Honda Group), Laventan (13.8 - 11.0 Ma)

• The author indicates that the samples were taken from the top of the "formation" Cerbatana, which is immediately followed by the San Nicolas clay.

Environment/lithology: terrestrial; lithified conglomerate

• Fossil wood was discovered on a level of stratified gravel that passes to sandstone at the top. They are immediately followed by a deposit of richly fossiliferous clays (San Nicola clay). This level, like all the "Formation" Cerbatana, has a marked torrential character. In fact, according to Weilman (1970), sediments come from the erosion of the Central Cordillera and were infiltrated east and southeast by currents (Fig. 82).
