• The oldest beds exposed in the strip are the middle thin interbeds of the shaly mudstone and limestone (MWC on Fig. 3) of the Mount Whyte Formation being the lateral extensions of beds 3 and 4 in Rasetti’s Monarch Mine section No. 17. They are covered mostly by talus and underlie the 30 m-thick, well-bedded limestone unit (W on

•Fig. 2.3; MWL on Fig. 3) forming the steeply downslopedipping cliff just northeast of Gully 5. Most of the beds in this top limestone are recrystallized packstones and

•grainstones replete with fragmental trilobites, brachiopods, and well-preserved molluscs.
