When: La Lieude Formation, Wordian to Wordian (266.9 - 259.5 Ma)
• La Lieude Formation is probably Guadalupian (Roadian-Wordian) based on radiometric dates of underlying units and magnetostratigraphy. As summarized by Evans (2012), the entire redbed succession of the Lodève Basin is characterized by reverse polarity corresponding to the Kiaman superzone, with the exception of the uppermost sampled bed of the La Lieude Formation, which yielded normal polarity. This suggests that the La Lieude Formation is nearly entirely pre-Capitanian in age.
•
•The La Lieude tetrapod body fossils were found in the upper part of the La Lieude Formation, above the sample exhibiting normal polarity dated as mid-Wordian. However they were also found below the La Lieude tetrapod footprints which were in part left by dinocephalians, therapsids that disappeared at the end of the Capitanian. Werneburg et al. (2022) thus concluded that the La Lieude tetrapod body fossil locality can be dated as latest Wordian-earliest Capitanian, an age which agrees with those of the nearby Euromycter and Ruthenosaurus from the Rodez Basin (France) and Alierasaurus from Sardinia (Italy).
