Southwest of Choquecota (Miocene of Bolivia)

Where: Oruro, Bolivia (18.1° S, 67.9° W: paleocoordinates 18.3° S, 66.0° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Rosa Pata Formation, Late/Upper Miocene (11.6 - 5.3 Ma)

• The material of S. uccasamamensis was found 15 m below ‘Toba 76’ from the Rosa Pata Formation (late Miocene) unconformably overlain by the Umala Formation (Pliocene; Saint-André et al., 2010).

•This specimen is considered to represent the oldest known remains of S. uccasamamensis, im- mediately before the Huayquerian–Montehermosan transition and most probably predating the Miocene– Pliocene transition.

•a horizon bounded below by Toba 76 and above by another volcanic level, the 2.8 Ma Ayo Ayo tuff ; its age is Montehermosan- Chapadmalalan (early and middle Pliocene)

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: terrestrial; red sandstone

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Preservation: permineralized

Collected by P.-A. Saint-André, F. Pujos in 1989-1990, 2000

• P.-A. Saint-André collected specimens in 1989-1990 and published them in his thesis in 1994 and F. Pujos revisited some of the same localities in 2000 for his thesis. Results are presented in this paper.
