When: Paltodus deltifer pristinus conodont zone, Toolse Member (Türisalu Formation), Varangu (485.4 - 484.5 Ma)

Environment/lithology: marine; lithified, quartzose, sandy sandstone and lithified, black, silty shale

• Dark-brown thin-bedded Dictyonema Shale containing laminae and lenses of quartzose silt and sand. Rust-coloured lenses and thin layers of very fine-grained authigenic masses of silica and small pyrite concretions as well occur in the shale. The top of the bed is strongly eroded, with rather deep vertical burrows filled with glauconitic sandstone from the overlying Leetse Formation. The lower boundary is transitional.
