•Assigned to Huayquerian up to probably the earliest Montehermosan Land Mammal Age (i.e. Late Miocene; Pascual & Bondesio 1985). These upper continental levels have long been known as 'Rio- negrense'. and more recently named as the Rio Negro Formation (Andreis 1965). The actual date of these deposits is controversial. Note: the min age of the Huayquerian used to be before the end of the Miocene (and Mintehermosan starting in the latest Miocene). But now, the Huayquerian spans the whole of L. Miocene.
