Aluotian section (Permian of China)

Where: Yunnan, China (24.4° N, 99.2° E: paleocoordinates 38.9° S, 95.3° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Dingjiazhai Formation, Artinskian (290.1 - 279.3 Ma)

• Conodonts have also been found in the limestones of the Dingjiazhai Formation in the Baoshan Block and most indicate an Artinskian age. Ueno et al. (2002) reported Sweetognathus bucaramangus (Rabe, 1977), S. whitei, and Mesogondolella bisselli in the Dingjiazhai area and suggested that they indicate a middle Artinskian age. Wang et al (2004) identified Sweetognathus inornatus Ritter, 1986, S. sp., and Mesogondolella sp. from the lower part of the limestones in the Aluotian area, and Rabeignathus yunnanensis Wang et al., 2004, Sweetognathus whitei, S. sp., Mesogondolella cf. M. dentiseparata (Chernykh and Reshetkova, 1987), Homeoranognathus? sp. from the upper part, suggesting a late Sakmarian and early Artinskian in age respectively. Ji et al. (2004) also reported Rabeignathus bucaramangus (Rabe, 1977), Homeoiranognathus huecoensis (Ritter, 1986), Sweetognathus inornathus, S. whitei, Mesogondolella cf. M. bisselli from the Aluotian Section and considered the fauna to be middle Artinskian in age.
