Pantipampa, 136 m (Ordovician of Argentina)

Where: Argentina (22.8° S, 65.2° W: paleocoordinates 45.5° S, 128.5° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Kainella teiichii trilobite zone, Santa Rosita Formation, Tremadocian (485.4 - 477.7 Ma)

• Kainella teiichii spans upper Cordylodus angulatus and lower Paltodus deltiger conodont zones

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: offshore; lithified, green mudstone

• The shale and mudstone of this facies accumulated under low-energy suspension conditions below storm wave base. The abundance of trilobites and other organisms in Facies1 indicates a suitable environment for the development of benthic life at the sediment-water interface. However, the dark color of some unbioturbated beds may reflect low-oxygen conditions during their deposition.
• Dark and greenish gray, massive to thinly laminated shale, mudstone and silty mudstone [Facies 1]

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils
