When: Zelten Formation (Jabal Zelten Group), Thanetian (59.2 - 56.0 Ma)

• Thanetian age is based on presence of forams Planorotalites compressa, Subbotina velasconensis, Subbotina triloculinoides and Morozovella acuta as well as the algae Distichoplax biserialis

Environment/lithology: lagoonal or restricted shallow subtidal; lithified, peloidal grainstone

• Lagoonal, close to organic buildup
• Bioclastic-peloidal grainstone with algal material, scleractinian fragments and echinodermal debris, with few miliolids and Textularia sp., few bivalve shell fragments; oncoids, micritic envelops, and fine grained pellets in between bryozoa branches.
