Inuyama TR5A-N02 (Triassic of Japan)

Where: Japan (35.4° N, 137.0° E: paleocoordinates 43.8° N, 121.5° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

When: Capnuchosphaera zone, Carnian (237.0 - 228.0 Ma)

• studied sections are in the Kamiaso unit, which consists of thrust sheets of sedimentary sequences containing Triassic to Lower Jurassic bedded cherts and overying Middle Jurassic clastic rocks (sandstones, mudstone); studied thin sections (N and O) are located in the CH-2 thrust sheet

Environment/lithology: basinal (siliceous); chert

• absence of carbonate rocks suggests that the primary depositional site was deeper than CCD, and beyond the reach of terrigenous clastic material

Size class: microfossils
