When: Arcillolitas Abigarradas Member (Paja Formation), Barremian to Barremian (129.4 - 113.0 Ma)

• Cortés et al. 2019: CIP-0001 was preserved in a calcareous concretion of the Arcillolitas Abigarradas Mem- ber, which is the middle of the three units of the Paja For- mation (Etayo-Serna, 1968, 1979). Several ammonites were preserved in association with CIP-0001, including Gerhardtia Hyatt, 1903 from the upper Barremian (ca. 128 Ma) H. (G.) veleziensis ammonite zone (cf. Ogg et al., 2012: fig. 27.6; Fig. 1.5).

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: terrestrial; sandy claystone

• Cortés et al. 2019: The Barremian–middle Aptian Arcillolitas Abigarradas Member, where CIP-0001 was found, is “a sequence of variegated claystones that contains gypsum lensoid crystals, nodules, laminae and veins, as well as thin calcareous beds with “cryptalgal structures”, which have been interpreted as indicative of “a salt tidal flat depositional environment” by Forero and Sarmiento (1985, p. 2).
• Cortés et al. 2019: The Barremian–Aptian-aged Arcillolitas Abigarradas unit consists of light-colored variegated claystone, which in its lower part contains numerous thin beds of sandy clay, and in its upper portion contains intercalations of calcareous claystone and gypsum.

Size class: macrofossils

• Cortés et al. 2019: CIP-0001 includes dorsal vertebrae, dorsal ribs, dorsal and ventral osteoderms, and metapodial elements preserved together in a concretion.

Collected by Carlos Gonzalez in 2012

Collection methods: chemical, mechanical

• Cortés et al. 2019: The specimen was prepared by DC, Freddy H. Parra, and Juan Parra (CIP) using mechanical tools and acid protocols described by Padilla et al. (2010). Housed at Centro de Investigaciones Paleontológicas, Villa de Leyva, Colombia.
