Dashidong, Wenshan (mudstone unit) (Miocene to of China)

Where: Yunnan, China (23.3° N, 104.3° E: paleocoordinates 22.5° N, 103.3° E)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Huazhige Formation, Early/Lower Miocene to Early/Lower Miocene (23.0 - 11.6 Ma)

• "This fossiliferous outcrop was previously assigned to the late Miocene (Huang et al., 2015, Lebreton-Anberrée et al., 2015, Li et al., 2015, Meng et al., 2014, Meng et al., 2015, Zhang et al., 2015a, Zhang et al., 2015b, Zhang et al., 2015c). The latest magnetostratigraphic study suggests that this outcrop is early to middle Miocene (ca. 15.2 to 16.5 Ma) (Lebreton-Anberrée et al., 2016)." (Huang et al. 2018)

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lacustrine - large; calcareous mudstone

• "Strata in the fossil locality consist of three units: a basal unit composed of silty mudstone, a middle unit composed of shale used by local people to make bricks, and an upper unit composed of marl. Both the middle and upper units are rich in plant fossils." (Su et al. 2013)
