Dhok Bun Ameer Khatoon (Miocene of Pakistan)

Also known as DBAK, Dhook Bun Ameer Khatoon

Where: Chakwal, Pakistan (32.8° N, 72.9° E: paleocoordinates 28.1° N, 74.3° E)

• coordinate stated in text

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Chinji Formation (Siwalik Group), Middle Miocene (16.0 - 11.6 Ma)

• The stratigraphic span of the assemblage reveals the age of the studied locality is dated between 14.2 and 11.2 Ma (Cheema, 2003; Khan et al., 2008; Samiullah et al., 2011).

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: "floodplain"; mudstone and sandstone

• Prominent exposures of mudstone indicate the existence of floodplains
• The studied locality has unique coloured shale, containing some amount of unweathered igneous minerals, such as feldspar. It is red- brown mudstone with common grey sandstone inter-beds. The site is composed of sandstone and reddish shale which correlates to the Chinji Formation of the Siwaliks (Ullah, Arif, & Shah, 2006). The sandstone of this formation contains abundant quartz with subordinate feldspars which have variable quantities of lithic grains. The claystone contains yellowish-grey medium- to coarse-grained sandstone. The micas and traces of some heavy minerals in excess quantity indicate the presence of plutonic and volcanic rocks in the studied locality (Cheema, 2003).

Size class: macrofossils
