Calmoutiers, chailles siliceuses (Jurassic of France)

Where: France (47.7° N, 6.3° E: paleocoordinates 38.6° N, 15.4° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Terrain à Chailles Formation, Early/Lower Oxfordian (161.2 - 155.7 Ma)

• Decapod-bearing siliceous nodules are Lower Oxfordian, according to Charbonnier et al. (2012), containing ammonites indicating the Early Oxfordian Cordatum biozone (Enay 1966; Cariou et al. 1997).

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: offshore ramp; lithified, nodular, cherty/siliceous limestone

• Evidence from depositional environment, comparisons with others Jurassic crustaceans and modern analogues indicate that the crustacean fauna from the Terrain à Chailles Formation probably inhabited a moderately deep water setting most probably about 100-150 m (lower circalittoral zone)

Size class: macrofossils
