• From the "Osborne clay" or "Osborne Beds", now the Chapel Corner Fish Bed of the Fishbourne Member of the Headon Hill Formation according to Quayle and Collins (2012). Age given as Oligocene by Woodward, and lower Oligocene by Woods (1925), but Fishbourne Member now assigned to the latest Eocene (Sheldon et al., 2009).

Environment/lithology: marginal marine; lithified, pyritic, gray, green claystone

• Interpreted as a brackish environment by Gaudant & Quayle (1988)
• Dense, dark greenish grey clay, highly laminated and containing abundant pyrite in the form of dark gritty masses or lumps
