When: Tin Mountain Formation, Early/Lower Mississippian (358.9 - 346.7 Ma)

• Upper Tin Mountain limestone.

Environment/lithology: lithified, fine-grained, shelly/skeletal, black, gray, silty grainstone

• Limestone, medium- t o coarse-grained crinoidal ; black, weathering dark gray to black ; beds as much as 2 feet thick, low-angle cross-bedding, shaly bedding planes ; chert lenses as much as 3 feet long and 4 inches thick, prominent lenses of Spirifer coquina interbedded with limestone, fine-grained ; black, weathering black ; beds 1 to 2 feet thick ; poorly fossiliferous. Sample B-1053, 0.9 per cent insoluble residue of black silty clay and silicified fossil fragments, formed faint black scum during digestion ; texture of interlocking calcite crystals about 1 mm in diameter, with included large fossils and fossil fragments as much as 10 mm in diameter ; no apparent layering.
