Campo Azul (lacustrine beds) (Cretaceous to of Brazil)

Also known as Sanfranciscana Basin

Where: Minas Gerais, Brazil (16.5° S, 44.8° W: paleocoordinates 16.8° S, 12.0° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Quiricó Formation (Areado Group), Barremian to Barremian (129.4 - 113.0 Ma)

• The material described here (FUP-Pv 000018) is housed at the University of Brasília–Planaltina Campus and was collected from an outcrop located in the city of Campo Azul, State of Minas Gerais, from fluvial sandstones immediately above the typical lacustrine layers of the Lower Cretaceous Quiricó Formation, Areado Group (Sanfranciscana Basin).

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lacustrine; massive, red sandstone

• from fluvial sandstones immediately above the typical lacustrine layers of the Lower Cretaceous Quiricó Formation, Areado Group (Sanfranciscana Basin).
• The fossil lizard described here was collected in massive and reddish sandstones from the Quiricó Formation, located immediately above the sequence of the typical lacustrine fine sands and shales with planar-parallel lamination. In the same levels and near the collection site, ripple marks and desiccation cracks were found, indicating that the margin of the lacustrine body was nearby.

Size class: macrofossils

• The material comprises two dentary rami with teeth collected from Lower Cretaceous rocks of the Quiricó Formation

Collection methods: surface (in situ),

• FUP-Pv is housed at the University of Brasília -Planaltina Campus
