• For this study, 64 of the 93 samples collected by Concheyro et al.(2002) were prepared for the recovery of ostracods. The samples were collected in the interval betweenc. 48 and c. 54 m from the El Matuasto outcrop, encompassing the K–Pg boundary (Concheyro et al.2002). They were spaced 30 cm from each other untilthe height of 51.60 m (sample A14), after which theywere collected every 2 cm
Environment/lithology: marine; green shale
Size class: microfossils
• Valves and carapces of ostracods
Collected by Andrea Concheyro in 2002
Collection methods: core, surface (in situ), chemical, peroxide,

•Sample preparation followed the usual method for calcareous microfossils:c. 20 g from each sample were immersed in a 200 mL solution of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) for 24 h, after which they were washed through 63, 180 and 250lm meshes and subsequently dried at 40°C for 48 h. All ostracods were hand-picked under astereo microscope for each size fraction. Selected specimens were imaged using an EVO MA15 Zeiss scanning electron microscope at the Instituto Tecnológico de Paleoceanografia e Mudancßas Climáticas (itt Oceaneon)of the Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISI-NOS), Brazil.
