• Based on the planktonic foraminifers and diatoms, the age of the formation is late Pliocene (Hirayama and Uemura, 1985; Nemoto and Wakabayashi, 1995)

Environment/lithology: marine; siltstone

• Based on cluster analysis of benthic foraminifers, Nemoto and Wakabayashi (1995) estimated that the formation was deposited in the upper bathyal zone
