Also known as Kyafar River
Where: Karachaevo-Cherkessiya, Russian Federation (43.9° N, 41.5° E: paleocoordinates 38.3° N, 47.4° E)
• coordinate estimated from map
When: Orthogarantiana humilis ammonoid zone, Djangura Formation, Bajocian (170.3 - 168.3 Ma)
• upper Lower Bajocian– lower Upper Bajocian; subsequently, this part of the section was conditionally assigned to the lower part of the Niortense zone, isolated in the Kuban River basin, as the Humilis Subzone (Mitta, 2021c).
• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: marine; claystone
Size class: macrofossils
• There were no ammonites with a preserved aperture, with or without lappets, among these shells. However, we can assume the presence of a dimorphic pair in this sample: with a similar size, some specimens have relatively wide whorls and a long (0.9 whorl) body chamber (Figs. 2c, 2d), while others have noticeably narrower whorls, with a shortened body chamber (0.75 whorl) (Figs. 2f, 2g). Most likely, the former are macroconchs, and the latter, respectively, microconchs.
Preservation: concretion
Reposited in the PIN
Collection methods: surface (in situ),
