Caryocrinites sp. B Assoc., Welton Mbr., Scotch Grove Fm., Iowa (Silurian of the United States)

Where: Iowa (41.9° N, 90.6° W: paleocoordinates 21.4° S, 55.8° W)

• coordinate based on political unit

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Welton Member (Scotch Grove Formation), Telychian (438.5 - 433.4 Ma)

• "Late Llandovery (probably C5-C6) to Early Wenlockian." I am calling this Telychian based on Witzke and Johnson (1999, PBDB ref. 7006).

• member-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: deep subtidal ramp; dolomitic, shelly/skeletal packstone and dolomitic, shelly/skeletal wackestone

• Mid BA 3 to mid BA 4. Holdfasts present, but very few, suggesting not an echinoderm thicket.

•SEP environmental call based on given description and same vol. page 807.

• "The lithology is an echinoderm-moldic dolowackestone to dolopackstone, generally the former. Skeletal debris and whole fossils are abundant..."

Collection methods: Abundances given for echinoderms (table 45.14).
