Tormosocrinus-Kyphosocrinus Assoc., Wolcott Limestone (Grainstone Facies) (Silurian of the United States)

Where: New York (43.2° N, 76.8° W: paleocoordinates 24.8° S, 46.4° W)

• coordinate based on political unit

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Wolcott Limestone Formation (Clinton Group), Llandovery (443.4 - 433.4 Ma)

• "Late Llandoverian (C4-C5?), Wolcott Limestone (only). Wolcott Formation, lower 2 m.

• member-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: deep subtidal; gray, green, silty shale and shelly/skeletal, gray grainstone

• "[Grainstones] constitute a high energy shoal...The [shales] are gradiational...and represent a closely related but low energy deposit, probably on the outer fringes of the echinoderm shoal. This environment supported prolific thickes of bryozoans...Preservation exceptionally good...Close association with pentamerid grainstone suggests outer BA 3...shales contain abundant undescribed large stricklandiid...indicating BA 4."

•2003:04:06- Environmental call by SEP based on lithologic and stratigrahpic context outlined in original reference. Formation name not in wide usage.

• "...assemblage associated with greenish-gray silty shales containing a few thin calcisiltites. The fenestrate bryozoan-rich shales occur in an interbedded interval about 0.5 m thick within the lower 2 m...They are under- and overlain gradationally by crinoidal brachiopod-rich packstones and grainstones having very abundant shells of Pentamerus oblongus."

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: Abundances for echinoderms given in table 45.33.
