Adnet Schnoll Quarry 5a1 (Jurassic of Austria)

Also known as Quarry XXXI (5a1)

Where: Austria (47.0° N, 13.0° E: paleocoordinates 32.2° N, 17.2° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Psiloceras calliphyllum zone, Langmoos Member (Schnoll Formation), Early/Lower Hettangian (201.3 - 196.5 Ma)

• The Langmoos Member is only present in basal part of the left (northeastern) part of the quarry.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: deep subtidal ramp; lithified, shelly/skeletal, yellow, calcareous bafflestone

• At the boundary of Calliphyllum (Planorbis) and Liasicus Zone, late LST and transgressive system tract conditions are supposed. Rising sea level allowed onlap of the Langmoos Member at the slope as a lowstand edge. Poorly oxygenated, nutrient-rich bottom waters fostered dense sponge populations.
• red, yellow and grey spiculitic biomicrites (bafflestones) with siliceous sponges and small stromatactites

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: original calcite

Collection methods: bulk, mechanical,

Primary reference: F. Boehm, O. Ebli, L. Krystyn, H. Lobitzer, M. Rakus and M. Siblik. 1999.
