Where: Xizang, China (32.5° N, 91.0° E)
• Paleocoordinates: 12.2° S, 75.8° E (Wright 2013)
• coordinate estimated from map
• local area-level geographic resolution
When: Dongka Formation, Llandovery to Llandovery (443.4 - 427.4 Ma)
• Except where otherwise stated, ref. 7624 uses Lower Silurian as equivalent to Llandovery, Middle Silurian as equivalent to Wenlock, and Upper Silurian as equivalent to Ludlow plus Pridoli. Original authors correlated with Lojoping Fm. on basis of fossils. "The overlying strata are unfossiliferous phyllite, quartzite, and crystalline limestone interbedded with marble, that lie conformably on the Dongka Formation...Liang and Xia date these metamorphics as Middle and Upper silurian. The base of the Dongka fm. is unknown. Although the fossils do indicate a Silurian age, we feel that the position of the Dongka Formation within the Silurian is still uncertain." Nevertheless, the correlation chart assigns it to the Lower Silurian.
