• This part of the formation is in the Beattonoceras molluscan biozone.

Environment/lithology: marine; shale

• The Shaftesbury Formation consists of dark grey, slightly silty, marine shales with scattered nodular or banded ironstone concretions. It contains the widespread "Fish-scale" marker bed, which is a concentration of sandstone, siltstone, fish scales, and fish bones. Individual samples not specifically described.
