• This formation is in the Beattonoceras, Acanthoceras, and Inoceramus dunveganensis molluscan biozones.

Environment/lithology: fluvial-deltaic; shale

• The Dunvegan Formation consists of medium- to coarse-grained, carbonaceous, cross-bedded, deltaic sandstones, with greyish green, non-marine, carbonaceous shales. There are also some brackish to marine phases in the middle of the succession, represented by dark grey shales, siltstones, and oyster beds. A few thin coaly beds are developed locally. Individual samples not specifically described.
