C-30823 (Cretaceous of Canada)

Also known as GSC loc. C-20823 from Bank Island

Where: Northwest Territories, Canada (73.6° N, 118.3° W: paleocoordinates 72.6° N, 39.6° W)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Christopher (?) Formation, Aptian (125.0 - 113.0 Ma)

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; lithology not reported

• Samples are from isolated outcrops to represent the initial phase of the transgression of the Christopher sea over the platform area. The low diversity but abundance of megaspores is suggestive of a nonmarine paleoenvironment for at least samples C-30573 and C-37219. Therefore, it may be equally plausible to interpret these samples as representing a late phase of the underlying, non-marine Isachsen Formation.

Size class: microfossils

Preservation: original sporopollenin

Reposited in the GSC

Collection methods: surface (in situ),

• C-30823 and C-37223 are treated as synonyms.
