Singh (1983) Sample C-34 (Cretaceous of Canada)

Also known as Singh (1983) Sample C-34

Where: Alberta, Canada (55.9° N, 118.6° W: paleocoordinates 57.9° N, 71.5° W)

• coordinate stated in text

When: Inoceramus dunveganensis, Dunveganoceras, and Sciponoceras cf. S. gracile zone, Kaskapau Formation (Smoky Group), Late/Upper Cenomanian (99.6 - 93.5 Ma)

• This formation is in the Inoceramus dunveganensis, Dunveganoceras, and Sciponoceras cf. S. gracile molluscan biozones.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: coastal; shale

• The Kaskapau Formation consists of dark grey marine shales. A transitional succession of interbedded sandstone, siltstone, and shale in the basal portion of the Kaskapau Formation is replaced at higher levels by brackish to marine, dark grey shales and siltstones interspersed with nodular ironstone concretions. Only the Cenomanian portion of the Kaskapau Formation lying below the Second White Speckled Shale was sampled for the present study.

Size class: microfossils

Preservation: original sporopollenin
