Sample PG 30, Psie Gorki Section, Holy Cross Mountains (Devonian of Poland)

Where: Poland (50.8° N, 20.7° E: paleocoordinates 18.7° S, 31.4° E)

• coordinate based on political unit

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Late/Upper Frasnian (379.5 - 376.1 Ma)

• 47 samples collected from thickness of about 8.5 meters surrounding Frasnian-Famennian boundary, which is placed at base of bed 8. This collection is number PG 30 from within bed 7. [JA: the lower part of the section is said to be entirely late Frasnian]

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; shelly/skeletal grainstone

• Overall sequence interpreted as open marine photic zone, fore shoal (beds 1 to 4; microfacies 1 to 3) to mixed algal backshore and crinoidal foreshore (beds 5 through 11; microfacies 4). Several microfacies are also recognized: 1. burrowed bioclastic wackestones and packstones. 2. burrowed bioclastic peloidal packstones (2a. fine-gr. packstones, heavily bioturbated; 2b. coarser packstones with larger bioclasts). 3. peloidal laminated bioclastic grainstones (3a. fine grainstones with same bioclasts as microfacies 2; 3b. coarser, with cross-stratification and alternation of fine and coarse bioclastic laminae); 4. coarse grained floatstones and grainstones (4a. microconglomeratic floatstones with corals; 4b. coarse grainstone-rudstone with a few oncoids and rare micritized ooids; 4c. med.. to coarse crinoidal grainstone rich in subrounded microbreccias). This collection is 4b.
