• "The 'Pilton Shales' of the 'Pilton Formation' consist of alternating thin-bedded fine-grained sandstones, siltstones, and silty shales. Carbonate layers and lenses occur at several horizons...rapid facies changes, lateral thinning and the disappearance of beds, varying thickness and changing fossil content characterize the sequence."
