• Age is Upper Eocene (Lower Ludian). Bed is 2.7 m thick, and lies directly below the Unio Bed, this bed corresponds to bed 4 of the Marchioness of Hastings's reports

Environment/lithology: green, sandy claystone and concretionary, ferruginous, sandy, calcareous claystone

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Collection methods: In 1852, the Marchioness of Hastings published an almost identical paper to her 1853 report. I used the later English version, but the earlier paper is the more primary reference.
