Vogelkop, R. 11, Klasaman Formation, New Guinea (Miocene to of Indonesia)

Where: New Guinea, Indonesia (0.9° S, 131.3° E: paleocoordinates 5.5° S, 132.2° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Malaloenoe Member (Klasaman Formation), Late/Upper Miocene to Late/Upper Miocene (11.6 - 2.6 Ma)

• the thickness of this member is 100-350 m, the level from which the fossils were collected is approx. 1/3 of the way up (an inference made from the strat column)

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marginal marine; fine-grained, argillaceous, calcareous sandstone and calcareous conglomerate

• Fine-grained sediments which were laid down in a peri-orogenic belt in gradually shallower water (though no more than 50 m deep, finally) was formed under shallow marine (neritic to littoral) conditions.
• The formation consists in the main of slightly sandy to sandy clays, marly in the lower part, with frequent intercalations of clayey and calcareous sands and, in the upper more sandy part, intercalated conglomerates and coal seams denoting paralic conditions.

Size classes: macrofossils, microfossils

Collection methods: collected by J. P Roothaan in 1929/1930
