Where: Baja California Sur, Mexico (24.8° N, 111.7° W: paleocoordinates 24.6° N, 110.4° W)
• coordinate based on nearby landmark
• outcrop-level geographic resolution
When: Salada Formation, Pliocene (5.3 - 2.6 Ma)
• Rocks are mapped as Pliocene, but may in fact be Pleistocene. They lie directly upon the crystalline focks or on the underlying formation believed to be Ysidro in age. The strata appear to consist of several hundred feet of strata, the lower part of which is brown sandstone and the upper part white sandstone. Posssibly outcrops described as Salada Fm are not all the same age, yet most appear to be Pliocene.
• bed-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: marine; unlithified, brown, white sandstone
Size class: macrofossils
