Horog-hegy I + II, Bed 1 (Triassic of Hungary)

Where: Veszprem, Hungary (46.9° N, 17.6° E: paleocoordinates 1.4° N, 29.1° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Felsõörs Limestone Formation, Anisian (247.2 - 242.0 Ma)

• The bulk of the hill is formed by Megyehegy Dolomite (lower Pelsonian?), overlain by gently dipping beds of Felsõörs Limestone (Pelsonian to Illyrian), about 40m in thickness.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: open shallow subtidal; limestone

• Horog-hegy I: The lowermost unit is a more than 50 cm thick, light grey, slightly siliceous, unfossiliferous limestone (mudstone). This is overlain, with a sharp contact, by a 40cm thick, light brown, coarse-grained bioclastic limestone with brachiopods of rock-forming amount ("Upper Recaro")

•Horog-hegy II: a smaller, 2m wide outcrop around 50m eastward from the previous one, along the strike of the beds. The wxposed sequence is almost the same as in Horog-hegy I, but here the lowermost mudstone us well-bedded, slightly bituminous and yielded a poorly preserved Bulogites, and the brachiopod limestone ("Upper Recoaro") attains only 20 sm thickness.

Size class: macrofossils
