Wujiashan Quarry (Cretaceous to of China)

Also known as Tian Zhen, Wu Valley

Where: Shanxi, China (40.3° N, 114.2° E: paleocoordinates 41.3° N, 104.8° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Huiquanpu Formation, Cenomanian to Cenomanian (100.5 - 72.1 Ma)

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: terrestrial; gray siltstone and medium-grained, coarse, red sandstone

• The intrusions and lack of well-preserved index fossils makes precise dating difficult. The age is based on the discovery of pliosaur material in the formation.
• The Huiquanpu Formation consists of several hundred meters of terrigenous sediments which were deposited in a high energy fluvial environment. There is extensive cross-bedding. The uper part of the formation has been extensively reworked and contains a number of early tertiary volcanic intrusions.

Size class: macrofossils

Collected by Lu & Li in 1993; reposited in the BMNH, IVPP

Collection methods: quarrying, surface (float), mechanical,
