• Upper part of Heath. JA: late Chesterian is Serpukhovian according to Mii et al. 1999 (GSA Bull 111:960-973)

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: offshore; poorly lithified, black shale and limestone

• Some of the upper Heath MAY be estuarine/non-marine as noted by the author. These localities contain wood and other plant fragments, are non-calcareous and contain no marine fossils. These localities have been omitted by me [MS].
• black fissile shale, overlain by numerous thin siltstone and limestone beds in the upper part of heath.
