GSC C-118576, Kirkland Creek (Cretaceous of Canada)

Also known as MVA(F)85-182

Where: British Columbia, Canada (49.6° N, 122.0° W: paleocoordinates 49.3° N, 74.4° W)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Brokenback Hill Formation, Albian (113.0 - 100.5 Ma)

• Tuffaceous sandstone of Brokenback Hill Formation. The Brokenback Hill Fm ranges from upper Valanginian to middle Albian in age. All colllections have relatively fine temporal resolution however due to ammonite biostratigraphy. SPECIFIC AGE DATA: The ammonite identfied as Ammonoceratites sp. closely resembles the specimen figured in McLearn (1972) from the Queen Charlottes Islands where it is associated with Middle Albian fauna. Arkell et al. (1957) suggested a Late Aptian to Cenomanian age for Ammonoceratites.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: offshore; lithified, tuffaceous sandstone

• Relatively deep water conditions, quiet water, soft substrate, some wave action, occasional ripple marks, fairly proximal volcanic source.
• SPECIFIC DATA: Tuffaceous sandstone; GENERAL INFORMATION: The Brokenback Fm is mainly green crystal tuff, volcanic conglomerate, and tuffaceous sandstone.

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: cast, mold/impression

Reposited in the GSC

Collection methods: surface (in situ),

• Collections made in 1985by A.J. Arthur and P.L. Smith; collections reposited in the GSC.
