NMB #10798 - Carriacou Fm (Carriacou) (Miocene of Grenada)

Where: Grenada (12.5° N, 61.4° W: paleocoordinates 12.2° N, 60.2° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Carriacou Formation, Early/Lower Miocene (23.0 - 16.0 Ma)

• The principal, nominal sedimentary units of the mid-Tertiary succession of Carriacou are the Belmont Formation (lower Miocene), Kendeace Formation (lower Miocene), Carriacou Formation (middle Miocene) and Grand Bay Formation (middle Miocene). The collection originates from the Carriacou Fm. Apparently some taxa within these faunas may be reworked out of the underlying Belmont Fm.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: shallow subtidal; poorly lithified limestone

• Said to be tropical shallow water, and contains various epifaunal and endoliths. Presumably a limestone fauna.
• No lithology specified, but presumed to be a limestone. From specimens presented in photgraphic plates most material from Carriacou appears to be from poorly-lithified as opposed to cemented, or unconsolidated sediments. No information provided in text

Size class: macrofossils

Reposited in the NMB

• Naturhistorisches Museum, Basel, Switzerland.
