Hongguleleng Fm (Unit 3) - Santanghu (Devonian of China)

Where: Xinjiang, China (44.5° N, 94.0° E: paleocoordinates 40.5° N, 31.6° E)

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Hongguleleng Formation, Famennian (372.2 - 358.9 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: Coeval with the Laoyemiao Fm and underlying the Early Permian Kalagang Fm. THICKNESS: The Hongguleleng Fm forms the lower 25 m of a section of about 35 m thick. AGE: Based on faunal correlations with well-constrained units elsewhere in China, using miospores and brachiopods. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: HISTORY: Previously referred to as the Lower Carboniferous Hebukeke Fm (Wu 1991).

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: coastal; lithified, calcareous sandstone

• ENVIRONMENT: No environmental data reported, but assigned to Silciclastic - coastal indet. on the basis of facies description. TECTONIC SETTING: No tectonic data reported. SEQUENCE STRATIGRAPHY: No sequence stratigraphic data reported.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Calcareous sandstones. LITHIFICATION: Lithified, assumed based on age and inspection of figured specimens.
